A21 Walk For Freedom

A21 Walk For Freedom

This Saturday, October 14, 2017,  The A21 Campaign, a non-profit organization, held their annual Walk For Freedom.

This event is a huge gathering of, as they call themselves, Abolitionists of the 21st Century.  Their goal is to bring awareness of the global injustice to humankind that is Human Trafficking.

Their mission is to make it possible that all enslaved human beings, everywhere, be rescued and restored.

A21 Walk For Freedom

The Walk For Freedom started at Main Beach, at 10:00 a.m. with a powerful rally.

This rally was both informational and moving.  We heard staggering statistics and sobering stories.  We heard from a survivor whose mother is still out there, enslaved.  Quite heart-breaking to say the least.

Here are a few of the stats they either spoke of or I took from their printed materials.  You can go to their website for much more information.

  • Human trafficking occurred in all 50 states in 2015
  • 25,500 cases of human trafficking have been reported in the USA alone
  • 99% of victims are never rescued

The Walk For Freedom started at Main Beach and went up Broadway.  They stopped at the Festival of the Arts and rallied some more, displaying hopeful, happy, energy.  Their positive shouts of "Freedom" could be heard as they finished their walk back up to Main Beach.

Vehicle Strikes Telephone Pole

Traffic Alert Laguna Canyon Road Closed due to a downed telephone pole

Traffic Alert Laguna Canyon Road Closed due to a downed telephone pole.  An automobile hit the telephone pole at approximately 10:36 p.m. last night, according to a Laguna resident whose home is near the incident.  This happened just hours after a motorcycle/car collision earlier Sunday morning. The extent of the motorcyclist's injuries are still unknown.

As I look at this photo of the downed telephone pole, it seems to me, unreasonable that the pole would not have been moved by now.

The latest information I have as of now, is that the crew has reached the scene, approximately 12 hours later.  Maybe be a bit late for all the morning commuters but hopefully the pole will be out of the way soon.

Stay safe Laguna!

Quite simply- we are stronger together!

Peace Vigil Main Beach Laguna Beach:  Saturday 10/7/17 at 6pm we will fill the Laguna Beach Boardwalk with candles of remembrance of those lost to gun violence. We will come together regardless of skin color, background, religious beliefs and the like to bind together for a greater cause.

It's an hour or so of our time on a Saturday evening and I'm sure many of us had other plans but let's gather for those that also had plans this weekend and are no longer with us. Let's show gratitude for the fact we are still here to create an impact, to share our light and help move our communities to greater cohesiveness, understanding and unification. We can absolutely crowd out the dark with our combined strength and endurance of heart.

Laguna Beach has always been a beacon of love and progressiveness in Orange County so it seems fitting to fill our boardwalk with candles, hugs and tears. Thoughts and prayers are always great, but we need to do more/better. This is a start. Please join us.

This is a peaceful Lagun Beach Community Vigil!

Please bring your family, smiles, blankets and a candle to remember those who we've lost. Please share far and wide. See you Saturday!
